Berkshire

 
Berkshire Project

Provides a therapeutic service for children and young people who have suffered abuse. Support is also offered to the non-abusing parents or carers. Referrals are received from local Social Services, health and education professionals, parents and young people themselves.

Buckinghamshire


The Milton Keynes Schools Team

Offers counselling and advice to children, young people and their carers on a range of child welfare matters. Also provides training and advice to school staff about child care issues. Referrals from parents/ carers and children/ young people accepted.

East Anglia

Hear2Help & Peterborough Children and Young People’s Service
Provides services to children and young people, including counselling, advice and information and peer support schemes. Referrals from parents/ carers and children/ young people accepted.

Norfolk Family Support
The NSPCC operates a ‘Kids Without Fear’ service, based in Norwich, for children and young people affected by domestic violence. We also offer the Freedom Programme in Norwich for mothers/carers who have been affected by domestic abuse, past or present. This 12 week programme gives them an opportunity to develop ways of safeguarding themselves and their children. An advice/support service is offered in Norwich and Great Yarmouth to adults and young people affected by difficult family relationships due to domestic violence/abuse, bullying, drug and alcohol issues.

We deliver a Respectful Relationships Programme in schools giving children an understanding about relationships and skills to form healthy ones as they grow up, covering such areas as bullying, assertiveness and aggressiveness, respecting each other, domestic abuse and gender stereotypes. Referrals from parents/carers and children/young people welcome.

The Suffolk Therapeutic Team
Offers a range of therapeutic services and community group work to children and young people who have suffered significant harm and trauma as a result of abuse or neglect. Referrals from parents/ carers and children/ young people welcome.

Essex

Essex Young Abuser Project
Reduces the risk of children and young people being sexually abused by other young people and, in doing so, helps them to overcome their own traumatic or harmful experiences. The Project provides assessment and treatment services, working with both individual young people and whole families. The Project works together with other professionals in the child protection, social care health and education system.

Essex Young Witness Project
Provides support and preparation for children and young people who are required to attend criminal courts as the victim or witness to crime (including child abuse). It is recognised that the process of attending court and giving evidence can be a distressing and traumatic experience for children and young people and, in recognition of this, support is provided to prevent further harm from being caused. The work includes pre-trial support sessions, accompaniment in court, and a follow up when the trial has finished. The Project works together with other professionals in the criminal justice system.

Safe Kids
Supports local communities in keeping children and young people safe. Current activities include: running protective behaviours programmes for local parent and toddler groups, development of a community library of child protection resources, providing training to community based professionals, running the ‘Tilbury Youth Forum’ which promotes the participation of young people in local politics, and encouraging local groups working with children to develop child protection policies and procedures.

The Southend Safe Communities
Reduces the risk of children and young people being abused by adults. The project  was started in 2000 and predominantly works within the Borough of Southend in Essex. It offers a range of services including the direct assessment of adults (and their partners) who may pose a sexual risk to children, and also community work, including child protection training for professionals who work with children and young people. Also provides advice to organisations about child protection policies, procedures and child-safe environments. The project works together with other professionals in the child protection and social care system.

Tilbury Children’s project
Provides specialist assessment services where a child has been identified as being at risk of abuse. Therapeutic services are also offered to children and young people who have suffered abuse, and to their families. Referrals mostly come from Social Services, although self-referrals and referrals from other sources are also accepted.

Hampshire

Hampshire Child Protection Centre
Provides therapeutic services to children and young people who have suffered any form of abuse, whether it be physical, emotional, sexual or neglect. Referrals from parents/ carers accepted.

Hertfordshire

Treetops
Provides specialist assessment, therapeutic and sexually harmful behaviour services. The project was started over 20 years ago. The aim of the specialist assessment service is to identify abused children and young people and to take effective action to protect them. The aim of the therapeutic service is to help children and young people who have been abused to overcome its effects and achieve their potential. The aim of the sexually harmful behaviour service is to reduce the risk of children and young people being sexually abused by other young people and, in doing so, to help them overcome their own traumatic or harmful experiences. The Project works together with other professionals in the child protection, social care, health and education system.

Kent

The Kent and Medway Family Support Service
A free, home based service for families with babies and toddlers, living in a defined catchment area. Trained, experienced play workers take play equipment into homes and, together with parents, plan activities for children and parents to enjoy, promoting all aspects of the child’s development. . Referrals from parents/ carers and children/ young people accepted.

Kent and Medway Therapeutic Team
Offers a therapeutic service to children and young people who have suffered significant harm. Many of the children and young people worked with have been sexually abused or have experienced other traumatic events. Referrals are accepted from children, families, police, health visitors, teachers, solicitors and social services.

PALS Gillingham
Offers a free play service for all families with babies and toddlers living in the Gillingham North area of Medway. Also offers a weekly group session, Pop-in PALS (PIP), providing families with support and the opportunity for children and adults to socialise.

PALS Thanet
Offers a free play service for all families with babies and toddlers living in the Newington and Northwood area of Ramsgate and the Millmead area of Margate. Also offers home visits from experienced, friendly play workers, with the aim of promoting interaction and communication between parent and child through shared play activities.

PALS Sheerness
Offers a free play service for all families with babies and toddlers living in the Sheerness area of Sheppey. Also offers home visits from experienced, friendly play workers, with the aim of promoting interaction and communication between parent and child through shared play activities.

Surrey

Surrey Young Witness Service
Provides pre-trial preparation and support to all children living in Surrey who may be called to give evidence in criminal proceedings. Also offers post-trial therapeutic services. Young people are visited at home and taken on a pre-trial visit to the court. During proceedings their worker attends court with them, provides a de-brief session and makes an assessment of any future therapeutic need. Referrals are usually made by police at point of charge, but are also accepted from other professionals and young people and their families.

Sussex

Hastings Schools & Young People’s Service
Works with children and young people of school age and provides counselling and walk-in facilities to encourage young people to talk about their problems. Referrals from parents/ carers and children/ young people welcome.

The West Sussex Project
Provides recovery services to children and their carers, after domestic abuse has been experienced. Services include individual therapeutic work and group work for children and their non-abusive carers. Referrals from parents/ carers and children/ young people welcome.

Also works with young people aged between 10 and 17 years who display sexually harmful behaviour. Provides assessments and post assessments for young people and their families.
