One in five young people think their parents have taken drugs and of those, one in ten think their parents still take drugs, according to a survey published by Addaction, the drug and alcohol charity. The survey indicated that parents remain naive about the drug taking behaviour of their children, with only 1% thinking their own children have ever taken drugs.

Chris Keates, general secretary of the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, has said that teachers who have sexual relationships with sixth-formers over the age of consent should not face criminal action. Child protection professionals have criticised her comments.

Britain is failing to meet standards on improving children's rights, a report from the United Nation's Committee on the Rights of the Child has said. The report contains more than 120 recommendations and highlights concern over the use of corporal punishment, treatment of asylum seeker and refugee children, and juvenile justice.
