Staying Safe Commitment Scheme

Staying Safe Commitment Scheme Please note: this scheme operated from 2006 to 2009 and is now closed to new applicants.

Our Staying Safe Commitment Scheme offerered support and recognition to organisations that took the first steps to implement measures to protect children and young people from harm or abuse.

The scheme was underpinned by the NSPCC Safetycheck standards. These standards provided a benchmark for good practice and helped to make organisations safe for children, young people staff and volunteers.

To receive the Certificate of Recognition, organisations were required to demonstrate that they had:

  • completed a self-assessment using the Safetycheck standards and developed a safeguarding action plan

  • identified someone in the organisation to take responsibility for child protection issues and implementation of the action plan

  • prepared a child protection policy statement and procedures for taking action when there are child protection concerns

  • appropriate public liability insurance.
