The Safe Network

Safeguarding information for the community and voluntary sector

Safe Network LogoThe Safe Network offers safeguarding information and training for the community and voluntary sector, including unaffiliated sports organisations.

Created in 2009 as a result of the Government’s Staying Safe action plan, the Safe Network is jointly managed by the NSPCC, Children England and Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT).

Its primary aim is to provide information, training and tailored advice to volunteers, parents and voluntary and community sector organisations to help safeguard children whenever they take part in activities outside the home – from after school art clubs to weekend reading groups.

Since the creation of the unit they have developed an Are they safe? pack, a free resource to help organisations and groups to set up safeguarding measures.

The Safe Network has also launched the Safe Network Standards: Core standards and guidance for safeguarding children in the voluntary and community sector. These are a set of core standards designed to help non-statutory organisations put in place clear safeguarding arrangements for children and young people.

By registering with the Safe Network you can also access an interactive self-assessment tool. This covers all the elements of each standard and helps to determine whether an organisation is strong and where it needs to improve its safeguarding practice.

The Safe Network runs primarily online via the Safe Network website.
