Sportivate

Getting young people aged 14 to 25 involved in sports

Sport England and Lottery logo

Sportivate, a Sport England initiative, gives young people aged between 14 and 25 the chance to receive six to eight weeks of coaching in a sport of their choice.

The programme is delivered through the network of 49 County Sports Partnerships (CSPs) working with a range of local partners.

It is aimed at those who are currently either not choosing to participate in sport in their own time, or are only doing so for a very limited amount of time.  During the six weeks a participant may work towards an event or personal challenge, and after the six weeks are up, the programme will also support them to continue playing sport in their community.

Sportivate is fully inclusive and targets all young people in the 14 to 25 age group irrespective of gender, ethnic background or disability.

The Sportivate initiative was launched in April 2011 and the programme will run until March 2015, funded by Sport England and the National Lottery.  It is part of the Play strand of Sport England's mass participation legacy programme 'Places, People, Play' launched on 15 November 2010.

The safeguarding requirements for activity deliverers within this Sport England-funded programme for children and young people are laid out in the safeguarding criteria checklist - Sportivate safeguarding criteria pro-forma (PDF, 41KB)

A resource is currently being developed to support programmes such as Sportivate: the safeguarding support toolkit for sport programmes.
