Finding focus: the way forward for inter-agency safeguarding training and development

PIAT (Promoting Inter-Agency Training) is a collaborative partnership between Nottingham University, Sheffield University and the NSPCC.

Keynote speakers:

  • John Carpenter on the results of research into the effectiveness of inter-agency training
  • Helen Edwards on the extent and boundaries of the safeguarding remit
  • Tony Morrison on working systemically with the pressures on the LSCB training and development function
  • Vijay Patel on developing safeguarding policy and its relevance to inter-agency training.

Aim

To enable the LSCB training and development function to sustain clarity of focus and purpose, while responding to new policy and practice developments.

Objectives

This symposium will help delegates to:

  • summarise the influences of the local and national context
  • make more informed choices about priorities
  • outline theoretical frameworks, research and practice developments supporting best practice in relation to inter-agency training and development.

Who is the symposium for?

Those with direct responsibility for the provision of inter-agency safeguarding training. This includes:

  • inter-agency training coordinators/managers
  • chairs and other members of LSCB training sub-groups
  • members of inter-agency training pools.

Date and time

The symposium is designed to be residential in order to support networking. However, non-residential delegates are also welcome.

The event starts at 10.30 am on 2 December 2008  and closes at 3.30pm the next day.

Cost

Residential: £395
Includes all meals and accommodation at the NSPCC National Training Centre in Leicester or at a local hotel.

Non-residential: £335
Includes lunches but not an evening meal, breakfast or accommodation.
