By Jacqueline Barnes, Ilan Katz, Jill E. Korbin and Margaret O'Brien (2006)
Children and families in communities: theory, research, policy and practice is a title in the NSPCC Wiley series in safeguarding children.
In the past decade, the relationship between communities, children and families has inspired a wealth of research and policy initiatives because of a growing belief that the breakdown of communities and a reduction in their potential support to families is a significant factor in social problems, including child abuse and juvenile crime.
In addition, it has been recognised that the community environment plays an important part in children's wellbeing.
Children and families in communities discusses some of the latest policy initiatives to tackle social problems, as well as providing a topical examination of the latest research and exploring the implications for policy and practice.
