Patricia's research interests are in the areas of forced migration; trafficking; refugee and asylum policy; social exclusion and inclusion; human rights; and the ethics of conducting research with migrant populations.
She has a practitioner background with various refugee populations in camps and urban settings in Southeast and South Asia. Since returning to the UK she has worked with the Refugee Women's Association based in London and has completed a PhD from Middlesex University on the compulsory dispersal and social exclusion of asylum seekers in England. She has previously been a Visiting Study Fellow at the Refugee Studies Programme, University of Oxford, and an ESRC Research Fellow at Middlesex University.
Patricia has recently worked in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire on a research project on trafficked children and young persons. The study explored in depth the different ways 'trafficking' is understood by practitioners, identified good child and young person centred practice and provided evidenced recommendations for practice. Further information: Breaking the wall of silence: practitioners’ responses to trafficked children and young people.
She is now working on a project evaluating the long term outcomes for sexually abused children and young people: Further information: Therapeutic services for sexually abused children and young people: developing the evidence base .
