Welsh Child Protection Systematic Review Group

CORE-INFO logoCORE-INFO, led by Dr Alison Kemp, is a collaboration between the NSPCC, The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and Department of Child Health, Wales College of Medicine at Cardiff University.

Its purpose is to develop a series of systematic reviews defining the evidence base behind the diagnosis of physical child abuse. Reviewers include paediatricians and other health professionals from across the UK, and reviews are updated annually.

Completed CORE INFO reviews:

  • bruising
  • fractures
  • oral injuries
  • human bites
  • thermal injuries
  • neurological injuries.

Forthcoming reviews:

  • eye injuries and retinal haemorrhages (commenced August 2007)
  • visceral injuries in child abuse (commenced November 2008)
  • neglect.

CORE-INFO leaflets

Our leaflets make the key findings of the systematic reviews and implications for practice accessible to anyone working with children or young people. These leaflets can help those working with children to identify physical injuries to children that may be the result of abuse. For further information, visit www.nspcc.org.uk/core-info .
