Child maltreatment in the United Kingdom is the most comprehensive report into child abuse and neglect ever undertaken in this country. It presents the findings of a survey of the childhood experiences of 2,869 18-24 year olds, including their experience of abuse and neglect.

Our executive summary provides an overview of the research and main findings of the survey arranged under the following headings:

  • family life
  • acceptable and unacceptable ways of treating children
  • bullying and discrimination
  • physical abuse
  • physical neglect: absence of adequate parental care and supervision
  • emotional or psychological maltreatment
  • sexual abuse.
