Stop it now!
Fresh Start: the NSPCC centre for action on child sexual abuse
Stop it now! is a national public education campaign which aims to prevent child sexual abuse. We raise awareness and encourage early recognition and responses to the problem by abusers themselves and those close to them. We do this through the establishment of regional and local projects, the dissemination of information and the provision of a Helpline.
Stop it now! leaflets, posters and postcards give information regarding child sexual abuse and offer suggestions of "where to go" for help. Our Helpline offers confidential advice and support to adults who have concerns about their own behaviours or those of others. Our campaign targets three groups of people:
- adults concerned about their own sexual thoughts and behaviours towards children
- family, friends and acquaintances concerned about an adult's sexual behaviour towards children
- adults concerned about a young person's worrying sexual behaviour.
We aim to establish local projects that prevent the sexual abuse of children by:
- raising awareness of the nature and scale of the problem
- changing attitudes towards child sexual abuse so that adults feel more confident to talk about the issue with confidence
- changing behaviours by empowering people to take appropriate action to prevent abuse and seek help.
