Children from minority ethnic backgrounds

Keeping our children safe

A multi-lingual CD-Rom of resources for anyone working with parents, carers, community groups, staff and volunteers from minority ethnic backgrounds

Children from all races and cultures are subject to abuse and neglect but research shows that children from some minority ethnic backgrounds are disproportionately represented in the child protection system.

Some groups of children are particularly vulnerable such as trafficked children or unaccompanied asylum seekers and there is often uncertainty among child welfare professionals about how to respond appropriately to the needs of minority ethnic families and how to balance culturally sensitive practice with a child-centred focus.

As part of our strategy to improve outcomes for those children who are most at risk, we will be delivering innovative services that seek to capture learning about what works to keep children from minority ethnic backgrounds safe from harm.
