Find out more
When a child dies from abuse or neglect, the local inter-agency group responsible for child protection conduct a review to identify how local professionals and organisations can improve the way they work together to safeguard children.

Following a large number of requests for access to the recommendations contained in case reviews, we have produced these pages to help professionals and researchers find the information they require.

Case review factsheets

An introduction to the case review process in England, Scotland and Wales explaining why they are carried out, who undertakes them and what happens during and after.

Published serious case reviews

A chronological list of the case reviews that have been published since 2009 with brief details of the cases and links to the executive summary or full report.

Research reports on case reviews

A reading list of the annual and biennial reports analysing the case details and recommendations from completed case reviews.

Statutory guidance for case reviews

Lists the government guidance for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Includes reviews of case review policy.

Practice guidance on conducting a case review

Resources to help local safeguarding children boards (LSCBs) and area child protection committees (ACPCs) in carrying out a review, learning from a review and implementing the recommendations.
