Dealing with bullying and the importance of friends (PDF, 2.55MB)
is a pack for teachers working with young people who are not accessing mainstream education. It can also be used in informal educative settings such as youth clubs.
The pack has been developed by CHIPS - ChildLine in Partnerships . It addresses issues such as bullying, friendship and decision making and offers information about ChildLine, a free confidential helpline for children and young people in the UK provided by the NSPCC.
The scheme of work is made up of four lesson plans each accompanied by teachers' notes. If students complete all four lessons, they can gain an accreditation through the Accreditation and Qualification Alliance (AQA) Unit Award Scheme.
The AQA Unit Award Scheme provides the opportunity to give students formal recognition of their success in short units of work. This recognition of success has been shown to motivate students and improve their performance. ChildLine worked with the AQA to write a unit which incorporated all the learning outcomes from the scheme of work.
This pack aims to raise awareness of bullying and help students to recognise that friends can be a good form of support.
