The Safe Communities Project National Steering Group provides a forum for members to be consulted on all aspects of the initiative, provide advice and to share learning.

Members of the Steering Group includes senior representatives from:

  • the Children's Social Care or Local Safeguarding Children Boards in three local pilot sites of Brent, Birmingham and Denbighshire
  • grant-making bodies
  • national umbrella and membership groups able to represent the beneficiary organisations
  • organisations or individuals with particular expertise in relation to the Welsh language, disabled children and young people, and black and minority ethnic children and young people
  • local and national government in England and Wales.

The purpose of the Steering Group is to:

  • consult with key partners, policy makers and representatives of beneficiary organisations on how best to achieve the overall project aims and outcomes and meet users needs
  • provide a forum for sharing the learning from the roll-out of the project locally and nationally in England and Wales and for identifying what is essential to support good safeguarding practice in community organisations
  • to advise on and assist with the dissemination of learning from the project and inform and influence policy and practice throughout England and Wales.

The group will meet on a quarterly basis for the duration of the project.

Forthcoming meeting dates

  • Tuesday 9 September 2008
  • Tuesday 9 December 2008.
