Safeguarding through audit

A guide to auditing case review recommendations

Front cover of Safeguarding through audit Safeguarding through audit: a guide to auditing case review recommendations
Mary Handley and Richard Green
Leicester: NSPCC, 2004.

Chapter 8 of the Government's Working together to safeguard children urges Area Child Protection Committees (ACPCs) / Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs) to establish systems for auditing action against case review recommendations. Many ACPCs / LSCBs are looking for ways of doing this within the resources available to them.

Safeguarding through audit: a guide to auditing case review recommendations will help ACPCs / LSCBs to conduct self-audits of case review recommendations, and can also be used for wider auditing purposes. It offers a practical guide to framing recommendations and action plans with audit in mind, including ensuring that recommendations, action plans and audit are linked. Using examples to illustrate the proposed methodology, the guide outlines how to prepare for auditing, and gives advice on gathering information for the audit and reporting the findings.

The guide includes an example showing the complete audit process, and a suggested report format.
