Written by the NSPCC, this short distance-learning programme is designed for anyone who comes into contact with children, young people and their parents through their work in an educational setting.
It provides an authoritative introduction to child protection awareness and will help you to recognise the early warning signs of possible problems or abuse.
The programme is available in both paper-format and online. It comprises four concise models of key information. Each module has its own questionnaire to test understanding. Upon successful completion a certificate will be awarded. All participants will also receive individual feedback on their answers. The programme also acts as a useful and lasting reference guide.
Improve your understanding of child abuse and learn about the different types of abuse: physical, sexual, emotional and neglect. Learn about the effects it can have on a child, as well as managing your own feelings. Eliminate misunderstanding by learning about some of the common myths and facts surrounding child abuse.
Learn how to behave if a child confides in you and how to report any concerns or suspicions you may have. Understand how to identify possible physical and behavioural signs of abuse.
Protect yourself from false allegations by following the code of conduct and implementing the principles of good practice. Learn to minimise situations where children may be at risk by using tips on updating or implementing new policies and procedures in your organisation. Learn to look for signs of those who may pose a threat to children when recruiting new staff.
Gain an understanding of the legal framework that covers your work with children. Learn about how organisations and individuals should work together to safeguard children. This module also covers what to do if allegations are made against you or one of your colleagues.
