Creating safer organisations

A training course for people who have a strategic role for safeguarding children and young people across their organisation.

Who is this course for?

This one-day course has been designed for people working within voluntary, charitable, community and commercial organisations that provide services or activities for children and young people and/or their families. The course is for those who have a lead/strategic responsibility for safeguarding children and young people - those who are responsible for the development, review or oversight of child safeguarding in their organisation. The course is very relevant to organisations that are already registered on the NSPCC Staying Safe Commitment Scheme.

Course aim

To enable those who have a lead/strategic role for safeguarding to identify and create a safer organisational culture in order to effectively protect children and young people.

Course objectives

This course is designed to enable participants to:

  • identify the factors that can create vulnerabilities for children and for organisations

  • understand how their organisation can use Firstcheck: a step-by-step guide for organisations to safeguard children to develop standards-based safeguards. These include developing child protection policy and procedures, safer recruitment and vetting, a code of practice for behaviour, equality and inclusion, and monitoring and evaluation

  • build confidence in using the standards for the purposes of self-assessment and action planning

  • identify relevant tools and resources to support the development of a safer organisation.

Venue and dates:

  • 10 March 2009 in Leicester.

Cost

£199 per person including a free copy of Firstcheck.

A limited number of bursaries are available for small, voluntary sector organisations registered on the NSPCC Staying Safe Commitment Scheme. Please ask on application.
