Safeguarding disabled children

A two-day course for professionals working with disabled children

Aims

To develop confidence and knowledge in connection with safeguarding disabled children and young people and promoting their welfare.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • state the categories of abuse and recognise the impact that abuse has on disabled children and young people
  • explain the specific vulnerabilities of disabled children and young people and their safeguarding needs
  • identify some myths that have developed around disability and explain the effect they have on the safety and welfare of disabled children
  • recognise the particular difficulties faced by some disabled children when needing to communicate what they are experiencing
  • describe the different safeguarding roles and responsibilities of professionals working with disabled children and young people
  • determine how to help to protect disabled children and young people more effectively.
