Child Protection Awareness in Music

NSPCC Consultancy news, November 2010

NSPCC Consultancy has worked with the Musicians Union to produce Child Protection Awareness in Music, an online, bespoke EduCare programme.  It has been produced in partnership with Music Leader and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

Child Protection Awareness in Music covers a variety of scenarios, including handling inappropriate communications with a pupil, how to demonstrate playing techniques, dealing with a difficult group situation, and what to do about concerns a pupil may be suffering abuse or self-harming.

The training programme uses short films to show a variety of good and bad practice examples, which are available to watch on YouTube. These will help anyone teaching music to children gain a better understanding of their child protection responsibilities, and avoid situations that could lead to accusations of misconduct.
