Child neglect

An NSPCC EduCare child protection awareness programme

Educare Child neglect coverA three-module distance learning programme to help you identify children who may be experiencing neglect.  For anyone who has already completed basic child protection training.

Neglect is the most common reason for a child to have their name added to the child protection register in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, or be the subject of a child protection plan in England.

Neglect can cause serious harm, which is why it is vital to help and support children who are experiencing it.

Child neglect is available in both paper-based and online formats and is delivered in three short modules with questionnaires to test understanding.

On successful completion, participants are awarded a personalised NSPCC certificate.

Module 1: Understanding the issue

  • what is neglect
  • how do children and young people define neglect
  • how neglect can affect a child.

Module 2: Causes and signs of neglect

  • the ways in which parental ability and circumstances, and wider family and community circumstances, can contribute to child neglect
  • the signs and indicators of neglect across stages of child development.

Module 3: What to do if you have a concern

  • barriers to voicing concerns
  • the challenges facing professionals
  • how you can offer support.
