Commissioned by the Home Office and produced by the NSPCC in partnership with NCH, this training programme considers developments in information and communication technology (ICT), its role in the lives of children and young people, and the ways in which adults who seek to harm children exploit it.
Children and the net has been developed with the assistance of staff from the prison and probation services, Nottingham social services and the BBC.

The programme has been designed for staff working in the prison and probation services and social care. Within these services it is for those whose roles bring them in contact with children, young people and adults where an awareness of children's use of ICT, the technology and the behaviour of adults who seek to harm children will enable them to contribute to the safeguarding of children and young people more effectively.
Because it provides basic awareness of safeguarding issues in relation to ICT, Children and the net is also relevant to staff in other agencies working with children and young people, such as health and education.
Children and the net comprises a CD and DVD and can be used as a one-day programme or materials can be selected to suit the knowledge, experience and roles of particular audiences.
The focus is on safeguarding children, and the pack is designed to promote thinking and discussion about the subject as well as to be informative.
