The Child's World: assessing children in need

Training and development pack

Front cover of The Child's World: assessing children in needThe Child's World training resource for professionals involved in the assessment of children in need and their families is now available on CD. It includes the complete training programme together with the Reader and Video Guide. The CD also contains video footage for the trainer's own reference.

The content is unchanged from the 2000 publication. The video footage is also available on both DVD and video.

The Child's World was originally developed by the NSPCC and the University of Sheffield following the publication of the Framework for the assessment of children in need and their families (DoH, 2000). The Assessment Framework is now integrated into Working together to safeguard children: a guide to inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children (DfES, 2006).

Target audience

The Child's World has been designed for use with staff involved in the assessment of children in need and their families under The Children Act 1989. The pack is relevant to those who work in a wide range of sectors, particularly member agencies of Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs).

The Child's World can be used as part of a continuing programme of staff development and read alongside the social work Post-Qualifying Child Care programme.
