Health professionals are often the first to be aware that families are experiencing difficulties in looking after babies or infants.

Developed by the NSPCC for educators in the health services, this reader, video and video guide about protecting babies under 18 months, is primarily targeted at health care professionals within a primary or secondary health care setting, but is also suitable for inter-agency training and with staff in any other agency likely to come into contact with parents or carers who are preparing for the birth of a baby or are caring for a baby.

The reader provides an overview of current research including babies health, developmental needs and vulnerability.

The video features scenarios on aspects of parenting stress or difficulty and important stages of a babys first 18 months.
