Safeguarding children: a shared responsibility

Front cover of Safeguarding children: a shared responsibilityA training pack for anyone whose work brings them into contact with children and families

Safeguarding children: a shared responsibility
was commissioned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to support What to do if you're worried a child is being abused (HM Government, 2006), the short, clear guidance to people working with children and families, recommended in the Victoria Climbié Inquiry report (TSO, 2003).

The full resource contains training materials for a wide range of audiences, a reader and a video/DVD. An easy-to-use CD-ROM enables trainers to select materials relevant to their particular audiences.

The materials draw on the expertise and views of a wide range of people including children and young people, practitioners and representatives from the fields of health, social care, education and criminal justice.

Learning outcomes

Safeguarding children: a shared responsibility will enable those whose work brings them into contact with children and families to:

  • understand what to do when they have a concern about a child’s welfare
  • know how to work as part of a multi-agency or multi-disciplinary team
  • be clear about roles and responsibilities
  • understand statutory requirements and how to apply them.

Safeguarding children: a shared responsibility is produced by the NSPCC in partnership with the Family Rights Group, North Lincolnshire Council, Oxfordshire Area Child Protection Committee, PIAT (Promoting Inter-Agency Training), Royal Holloway University of London and the Children's Rights Alliance for England.
