Turning points

A resource pack for communicating with children

Turning points: a resource pack for communicating with childrenAudience

For anyone involved in working with children at times of change or loss; critical turning points in their lives. Turning Points is produced by the NSPCC in association with Chailey Heritage and with the support of the Department of Health.

Aims

Turning Points is firmly rooted in the principles of inclusion and respect for the individual child. It aims to raise standards of communication with children by enabling them to:

  • express their wishes and feelings
  • make sense of their circumstances
  • participate more fully in decisions affecting them.

It focuses on the capacity of the worker to understand and respond to an individual childs requirements rather than locating the difficulty or deficit within the child.

Contents

The second edition of this comprehensive pack consists of five modules:

  • Introduction
  • Foundation - basic good practice
  • Key theories - relevant theoretical concepts
  • Turning points - critical life events
  • Practical approaches - ideas from practice
