What is the course about?
This course will further develop competence and increase confidence as a practitioner in carrying out a section 47 enquiry.
Who is this course for?
It has been developed for both staff and team managers in reception and assessment, family support, children with disabilities, permanence, and care leavers teams.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- describe your agency’s procedures and process of conducting a section 47 enquiry
- demonstrate awareness of agency standards for recording and completion of relevant paperwork
- demonstrate awareness of key issues in breaching confidentiality and conducting interviews without parental consent
- explain the procedure, membership and content for a strategy meeting
- demonstrate awareness of key principles of communicating with all children
- describe the process of making a professional judgement in relation to risk of harm for a range of situations and the impact of this decision making
- describe what may happen post interview / post conviction
- demonstrate an understanding of key issues in joint working with the police
- recognise the need to assess and manage risk throughout the process in order to inform a potential child protection plan.
