What is the course about?

This course will develop your knowledge and skills in integrating diversity and cultural needs in child protection work and risk assessment.

It will involve young people to help you understand the child’s experience and journey.

Who is this course for?

Practitioners and professionals carrying out risk assessments who want to enhance their knowledge and skills around integrating diversity and cultural needs in child protection work.

What level is the course and do I need any specific skills?

Applicants for this course should already have received basic safeguarding training.

By the end of the course you should be able to:

  • define diversity and understand why it is important to promote it in the context of work involving children and young people 

  • describe and explore cultural differences and their impact on risk assessment and decision making

  • demonstrate how values and beliefs impact on concepts of cultural differences and professional judgements

  • state the implications and importance of the legal framework, recent research and reports to promote a holistic and multi-agency approach

  • explore diversity issues through the involvement of young people

  • recognise the blocks and explore strategies in working with differences while ensuring children are protected
     
  • demonstrate an holistic approach in the assessment process through the use of case studies from a range of vulnerable groups at risk.


How will I be taught?

Through face-to-face learning from experienced professionals. Young people will be involved to give their perspective.

Teaching method will include presentation, demonstration and application.
