What is the course about?

This course will help you develop confidence and knowledge in connection with safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people with disabilities.

Who is this course for?

Practitioners and managers who work with children with disabilities.

By the end of the course you should be able to: 

  • state the categories of abuse and recognise the impact that abuse has on children and young people with disabilities

  • explain the specific vulnerabilities of children and young people with disabilities and their safeguarding needs

  • identify some myths that have developed around disability and explain the effect they have on the safety and welfare of children with disabilities

  • recognise the particular difficulties faced by some children with disabilities when needing to communicate what they are experiencing

  • describe the different safeguarding roles and responsibilities of professionals working with children and young people with disabilities

  • determine how to help to protect children and young people with disabilities more effectively.
