In a very special celebration, Winifred Hinton reached a milestone and turned 100 years old on 15 September 2007. Winifred had previously worked locally for the NSPCC during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and took this opportunity to give to a cause that has a lot of meaning for her. Her son, Bruce explains:
"We decided to donate to a charity instead of receiving presents as at the age of 100, you have been given most things and also, Mother had in fact worked for the NSPCC for many years. We had a lunch party for over 100 people at Felster Village Hall. The sun shone and everyone had a wonderful time. Mother really enjoyed the event, she literally stood up and thanked everyone for coming! The Celebrate and Give scheme is simple and straightforward. We raised £1800 on the day."
£1800 could help fund our Young Witness Support project for over two days. Facing an abuser in court and speaking about their experiences can be a harrowing ordeal for a child. This service provides children and young people giving evidence in court with the support they need to achieve the justice they deserve.
