Sarah and James' wedding

Sarah and James"We wanted to give the money to charity rather than wasting it on favours. The guests loved the idea and commented on the cards that were on every table. We also had a sweep stake to guess how long the best man's speech would be and everyone gave £1. We then donated the money to the NSPCC - a good way to raise some extra money." - Sarah and James

Sarah and James Billington got married on 1 August 2009 and decided to give the money that they would have spent on wedding favours to the NSPCC instead.

Sarah and James gave £50 for their 30 favour cards, which could enable two trained practitioners to each deliver one hour of support through the NSPCC Helpline to protect the most vulnerable children in society such as babies and toddlers who cannot call for themselves.

Beau Regan's christening

Beau, Francesca and Guy Regan"Becoming parents made us both more aware that there are so many children who need help and they don’t get the chances they deserve without assistance from the NSPCC. Beau is fortunate to be surrounded by a loving and caring family and will always be safe and happy but that’s not the case for many children. We want Beau to grow up understanding that he can help others by being a good and charitable person so this seemed the ideal opportunity to start." - Francesca and Guy

On 3 May 2009, Francesca and Guy celebrated the birth of their son, Beau, with their family and friends. Francesca and Guy asked guests to donate to the NSPCC rather than giving gifts and raised an amazing £528 in total!

Winifred's 100th birthday

Winifred "We decided to donate to a charity instead of receiving presents as at the age of 100, you have been given most things and also, Mother had in fact worked for the NSPCC for many years." - Winifred's son Bruce

In a very special celebration, Winifred Hinton reached a milestone and turned 100 years old on 15 September 2007. Winifred had previously worked locally for the NSPCC during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and took this opportunity to give to a cause that has a lot of meaning for her.

To mark the special occasion they had a lunch party for over 100 people and raised an amazing £1800 on the day.

Sylvia and Philip's Anniversary

Sylvia and Philip"Our children have been our life and the thought of children suffering in any way is hard to contemplate. We hoped this small gesture will assist in the excellent work the NSPCC carry out each day." - Sylvia and Philip

Sylvia and Phillip Needham had their Ruby Wedding Anniversary on 14 October 2007. After being married for 40 years and regular givers to charity over the years, they asked themselves 'do we really need presents at our age?'

Sylvia and Phillip asked their friends to use our donation cards instead of buying them gifts and whilst still receiving plenty of flowers they raised an amazing £230!

David Bruce's retirement party

Bruce's retirement party"As I approached my 65th birthday and retirement, I decided that I wanted to mark the occasion with a party. We invited about 50 guests to come to a party in our large garden dressed as someone from the past 50 years - the total number of my working years. We stipulated no presents, instead asked for a donation to our chosen charity - NSPCC. " - David
