Promethean
The NSPCC have recently gone into partnership with schools interactive learning technology provider, Promethean.
The 'Give Every Child A Voice' campaign was jointly launched in September 2010, allowing classrooms across Scotland to benefit from free classroom technology in return for collecting old, unwanted mobile phones.
With around 2,150 primary and 375 secondary schools in Scotland, and Promethean hopes to enrol as many schools as possible to help generate a target of £250,000 for ChildLine in Scotland.
How does it work?
For every 250 mobile phones a school collects, Promethean will donate £500 to ChildLine in Scotland and an ActivExpression Learner Response System will be awarded to the school.
The ActivExpression Learner Response System is a set of handheld pupil devices which allow every child to respond to questions by texting their responses. They also allow children to participate in discussions where sensitive topics such as family relationships and bullying can be raised.
Students are able to express their thoughts and feelings anonymously, without peer pressure or embarrassment, ensuring the teacher has real insight into the welfare of each child.
Take part
All schools are encouraged to participate in the campaign and can sign-up via www.giveeverychildavoice.com, a dedicated campaign website launched today.
Graham Byrne, Head of Ireland and Scotland at Promethean, said: "This is a great campaign in terms of encouraging young people to think about their environmental impact and the role they can play in bringing about positive change in their communities. It also invites them to access technologies that empower students to participate in class discussions and tests. At the same time, we hope to help raise awareness of ChildLine in Scotland so that more young people in need can access this vital service."
Businesses and local communities can also get involved in the recycling scheme by collecting old and unused mobile phones and donating them to a local participating school.
Other fundraising activities
Promethean has donated an interactive whiteboard in-kind to the volunteer training room at the Glasgow counselling base, as well as supporting Scotland fundraising events such as the Roaring 20's Ball.
