Hall of Fame 2005
Floella Benjamin OBE
Author, TV presenter, actress and political campaigner
Floella Benjamin is an author, TV presenter, actress and political campaigner. Most fondly known as the presenter of Playschool, Floella used charm and an infectiously cheerful attitude to inspire a whole generation of children.
Why Floella was nominated into the NSPCC Hall of Fame
Floella has been involved with the NSPCC since the FULL STOP Campaign began in 1999. Each year her involvement and commitment has grown. She is involved in a range of activities including campaigning, cultural change programmes and fundraising.
On one memorable occasion, Floella hosted a very moving fundraiser and celebration of Maya Angelou's 75th birthday, attended by Maya Angelou on behalf of the NSPCC.
As a very well-respected and high profile black celebrity, Floella's endorsement, active support, and vocal championing of the NSPCC enables us to reach a wider audience.
Floella says:
"I believe childhood lasts a lifetime, so I support the NSPCC and the important work it undertakes for the well being of children and their families, helping to build a strong foundation for the future. So I am honoured to be inducted into the NSPCC Hall of Fame and I will continue to wholeheartly support this important charity."
