Joanne's story

Extract from a story written by an 8 year old girl.
Her class was asked to write a story using the words in the NSPCC spelling list.
(Joanne's mother was abused as a child  She and Joanne have kindly given us permission to show you the story)

Judith, my mummy was badly abused when she was a child. My mummy said she was glad she had some nice friends at school. My mummy Judith should of told the teacher but she never did as she said she would be abused more. My mummy told me she was crying alot when her mummy threw her down the stairs. I think this was awful for her and she was only 3 year old.

My mummy said the way she was treated stopped her hurting her four children. I asked my mummy if she was still upset about it and she said "yes a little bit", but I am safe now in the safety of my lovely four children, who would not let anyone hurt me again. My mummy says children are still being hurt and abused all over the world and it would be nice if we could help stop this. I thought about all the things my mum had told me and and through the weekend I thought the main thing I could do would be to learn my 20 spellings ……………
