Number Day 2008

Be part of the biggest maths fundraising event ever on 4 December 2008

Number Day 2008

Congratulations! Your school is one step closer to celebrating NSPCC Number Day on 4 December 2008 - a great opportunity to get pupils to enjoy maths and raise money for the NSPCC and ChildLine.

Taking part is easy; the Number Day Resource Pack contains everything you need for a successful event, and the money your school raises will help make a real difference to children’s lives.

The sad fact is that 32,000 children in the UK are on child protection registers and are known to be at risk of abuse right now. This is why we need your support. Help us continue our valuable work and take part in Number Day 2008 by registering for a free resource pack.

What is Number Day?

Since December 2000, thousands of schools have taken part in the NSPCC Number Day, raising more than £800,000 and enabling us to provide vital services for thousands of vulnerable children. The event aims to make maths fun and exciting, promote our services and key messages, and link to the maths, citizenship and PSHE curricula.

Number Day is a fantastic way to bring about a positive attitude towards maths. It’s also a chance for schools to show their support for ending cruelty to children, FULL STOP. The money that you raise will help many abused, neglected and vulnerable children to have happier lives, children such as Emily. Number Day is  also a great opportunity to learn about the valuable work of our projects and services including ChildLine, and why we exist.

Find out what our supporters have to say about Number Day

"We all need someone to count on from time to time and people often say a problem shared is a problem halved. Last year over half a million children and young people called ChildLine free on 0800 1111 for comfort, advice and protection. Every £400 raised through Number Day pays for another 100 calls to ChildLine. So please make sure your school is helping children by making maths fun this term. With Number Day, it all adds up! Thank you."

Carol Vorderman

"I’m pleased to recommend the NSPCC’s Number Day to teachers, as part of the Government’s drive to help every child master the maths skills they need to succeed. The wealth of activities in the Number Day pack should give teachers at all key stages plenty of ideas to make maths fun for children”

Jim Knight, Minister of State for Schools

“I’m delighted to endorse the NSPCC’s Number Day 2008 and encourage all schools across Wales to support the event. The long-term skills challenge will only be met if young people are offered early and better opportunities.  Number Day provides an excellent opportunity for young people to see that maths can be made fun and the NSPCC are to be congratulated for that.”

Jane Hutt, Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong learning and Skills
