ChildLine volunteer enquiry form

ChildLine's administrative volunteers are ordinary people devoting a bit of their time to an extraordinary cause. Because of them, ChildLine is able to function more efficiently, help more children and change more lives.

Who are ChildLine's admin volunteers?
ChildLine currently has around 80 admin volunteers. They come from all walks of life and do all sorts of jobs at ChildLine. Our volunteers include:
•  students
•  F/T and P/T workers who volunteer in their off-hours
•  unemployed people
•  retirees
•  people wishing to return to work
•  people with previous admin experience and people with no previous admin experience.

What do ChildLine's admin volunteers do?
•  enter caller records on to ChildLine’s computers
•  process paperwork, collect statistics and help with filing
•  help out with fundraising tasks, including updating databases and assisting with mailings
•  help with interviews and training
•  work in Reception
•  help maintain financial records for ChildLine
•  fundraising research (using newspapers, internet etc)
•  assist at fundraising and volunteering events.

Why do people become admin volunteers at ChildLine?
Our admin volunteers tell us that they volunteer to:
•  help children and young people
•  give something back by working for a worthwhile cause
•  build their confidence
•  improve their computer or admin skills
•  meet people
•  develop an insight into the organisation before moving into a counselling role.

What do we look for in potential admin volunteers?
•  basic keyboard skills
•  good standards of accuracy and attention to detail
•  ability to cope with potentially distressing material
•  ability to maintain confidentiality
•  ability to work within a team environment
•  a regular commitment (This varies, but as a guide the expectation is at least one 2 hour shift per fortnight. But we do aim to work flexibly where possible to accommodate different volunteers’ availability.)

What we offer admin volunteers
•  training on our databases, and ongoing training and support with new tasks
•  the opportunity to develop new skills
•  a friendly, supportive team environment
•  the opportunity to participate in social events, conferences etc
•  a certificate in recognition of over 75 hours volunteering.
