Bullying
Being bullied can have just as damaging an effect on a child as more apparently serious types of abuse. It can involve name-calling, threats, insults, hitting, kicking, cyber-bullying and other violence – meaning it can be physically, emotionally and even sexually abusive.
The effects on children
Bullying is a big problem, with serious emotional and physical consequences for a child. It can:
- damage confidence and self-esteem
- lead to depression
- cause physical injury
- affect progress at school.
What you can do if a child is being bullied
As an adult you can help in several ways. The best possible start is to listen to the child, and take what they say seriously. Find out what you can do .
