Advice on this site

This section provides information and advice. You may find all the information you need to deal with what is worrying you, particularly if it is a general child care problem.

If the problem is more urgent than that, the advice pages listed below will help you to sort out your thoughts before you contact the Helpline. They explain different types of child abuse and common signs of abuse in children, including changes in behaviour. The aim is to give you a clearer idea of what is abuse and what is not abuse and what you can do to help a child at risk.

What to do if a child is at serious risk of abuse

In serious situations, on-screen advice is not enough. In the advice pages, we show the situations where you should get expert help immediately. Do this by phoning the Helpline on 0808 800 5000 or email us. If a child is in immediate danger, phone the police on 999.
