Confidentiality

We cannot trace your phone number and you do not have to give your name or address.

The Helpline adviser will ask whether you are prepared to give your name. It helps us if you do, but there is no pressure to do so. If you decide to remain anonymous, we will still do all we can to help.

Sometimes we need to speak to callers again. For example, if the Helpline adviser has questions about details you have given or needs more information. So they may ask you to call back, or if they can contact you. You're under no obligation to agree to this. But if you do, it can help ensure that our actions to protect the child are successful.

Questions that callers frequently ask

Will I know who I am talking to?
Yes. Even if you do not give your name, the Helpline adviser will give you their name.

If I call about a neighbour, will they know that I did?
We will not disclose your name and address to the person or family you have concerns about. And if we need to share any details with the police or social services, we will ask them not to do so. The Helpline adviser will discuss with you any worries you may have about this.

To find out what happens to the information you give us, see Your rights and our responsibilities.
