Help by phone

Are you worried about a child who is at risk of abuse or in need of help? Or are you a child who needs help?

Expert advice

Our Helpline advisers are all trained child protection officers. And they don't just deal with calls about child abuse. They can help with a range of child-care problems - the kind that most parents and carers experience from time to time.

As well as providing expert advice, our advisers can suggest other organisations that could help. They can also recommend reading material that will help you think through the problem.

A quick call could make all the difference

A call to the Helpline can help stop a difficult situation getting out of control. And you don't have to fit in with limited opening hours. We're here when you need help - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

If the lines are busy

Sometimes the Helpline gets very busy - particularly between 9am and 6pm. So a good time to call is later at night or early morning, or while a popular programme is on TV!

If all our advisers are busy helping other callers, our operator may ask you to phone back if your call is not urgent. If your call is about a child in immediate danger, the operator will advise you to contact the police immediately on 999.

Other NSPCC phone services

If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you can call our textphone service on 0800 056 0566.

We have a bilingual Welsh/English Helpline on 0808 100 2524.

We also have an Asian Helpline in Bengali, Gujurati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.

What about confidentiality?

We cannot trace your phone number and you do not have to give your name and address. Find out more about our confidentiality policy and what happens to the information you give us.
