Other Helpline services

In addition to running our English and bilingual services for the general public, the NSPCC Helpline offers a range of specialist services:

  • Special helplines to support complex investigations into abuse and to provide information and support to people who may be affected by such investigations. We also provide special helplines for NSPCC preventative initiatives. For example, Swimline, set up to support our work to protect children from abuse in swimming.
  • Safeguarding checks from local authority social services and other agencies using the NSPCC Children's Information Database. The agencies use the service for fostering and adoption assessments and as part of their local enquiries into child abuse investigations. Checks can be arranged by writing to the Duty Manager, NSPCC Helpline, 42 Curtain Road, London, EC2A 3NH.
  • Consultation and training on helpline services to other organisations. The NSPCC Helpline has been involved in a number of training initiatives to improve the safety of children in sport and other leisure activities, including training for administrative staff and volunteers.
The Helpline also has active connections in Europe. We have been involved in formulating EU-wide child protection policies and have provided consultation on the setting up of similar helplines in other countries.
