Special helplines

In addition to our main English and bilingual helplines, the NSPCC provides dedicated helplines. Some of these are specially commissioned to deal with calls relating to specific child protection investigations. Others deal with calls relating to initiatives designed to prevent abuse that are managed by the NSPCC or other agencies.

These special Helpline services may be set up for a limited period or may be ongoing. We can provide them either via our main freephone Helpline number or via a specific dedicated number. A commissioned helpline may incur a cost to the service provider, which will vary according to the service requirements.

Commissioned helplines are used by individuals who:

  • have been contacted by an inquiry team and want to talk further about their experiences
  • wish to be put in contact with the inquiry team because they have information which may be of use to that inquiry
  • do not wish to be involved in the inquiry but would wish to discuss their experiences in confidence
  • have other concerns that are not related to the inquiry.

Our other special helplines provide advice to organisations where staff or volunteers:

  • are responsible for children during sports, leisure or other activities
  • need advice about safeguarding children in their care
  • may need to discuss concerns about abuse of children in confidence.
