Bath and North East Somerset (BANES)

The Castle Project, Bath
The Centre helps children and their families recover from the impact of abuse. The team works with children and young people in the whole of Bath and North East Somerset. The team will accept referrals for children and young people who have experienced all types of abuse, including sexual, physical, emotional and neglect and those who have experienced domestic violence. Individual sessions for children and young people aged 4 to 17 years are offered. The team are currently developing a group work programme for children and young people, as well as a safe carers group.

Bristol

Bristol Schools Team
'An example of good practice' (DCFS (2008) Staying safe action plan). 
The Bristol Schools Team provides a counselling, support and advice service for children and young people in designated schools in Bristol. The service includes direct work with children and child protection awareness training. Children and young people have the opportunity to receive individual, peer and small group counselling, as well as more general advice and support. Self referrals are accepted, as well as referrals from school staff, family members and other professionals.

Cornwall

Devon and Cornwall Young Witness Support Project
Provides support and preparation to all young people throughout Devon and Cornwall who have to give evidence in criminal trials involving sexual and physical abuse. Referrals are accepted from the police, witness care units and the courts. Referrals from parents/carers and children/young people are also accepted.

Cornwall Family Support Services
Provides a range of services for families who have experienced domestic abuse across Cornwall. Treatment programmes are offered for children in order to increase emotional literacy and to help them to develop respectful relationships. Non abusive carers are helped to understand the impact of domestic abuse on their children and to develop parenting skills which may have been undermined by the abusive relationship. Referrals are accepted by professionals working with children as well as self referrals.

Derbyshire

Derbyshire Child Protection Team
Work with children who live in Derby and Amber Valley and are under the age of 18 at the time of referral. The team provide services to help children, young people and their carers overcome the effects of abuse which are preventing them from achieving their potential. This work is with individuals, families and groups. We also work with children and young people to reduce the sexual risk they represent to others. Service requests are accepted from children and carers as well as professionals.

Dove Project
Works with perpetrators of sexual abuse to reduce and prevent risks towards children. The project delivers risk assessments and a Home Office Accredited Community Sex Offender Groupwork Programme which provides between 50 and 240 hours of treatment for offenders.

Derby Schools Team: t2t2
A new service from 2008 delivering one-to-one listening and support to primary school children in Derby City schools.

Devon

Devon and Cornwall Young Witness Support Project
Provides support and preparation to young people who have to give evidence in a criminal trial involving either sexual or physical abuse. Trained volunteers work with young people to help them to be calm and able witnesses. Referrals are accepted from the police, witness care units and the courts. The project has three offices across Devon and Cornwall, based in Exeter, Plymouth and Truro.

Devon Child Protection Centre
Works with perpetrators of sexual abuse and partners to reduce and prevent risks towards children. Also works with children and young people who display sexually harmful behaviour.

Dorset

Child Protection Centre
Works with adults who sexually harm to reduce and prevent risks towards children. The team also work with young adults who display sexually harmful behaviour. Referrals, both male and female, are accepted from probation and social services where service level agreements exist. Assessments are also undertaken with adults who are not convicted of sexual offences, but where a credible allegation has been made by a child or young person.

Works with families where independent specialist assessments are needed in order to make decisions about the future placement of children. Also undertakes assessment and intervention work with young people aged 10 to 18 who sexually harm others. Referrals are accepted from social services and occasionally from members of the public and schools.

Gloucestershire

Gloucester Independent Enquiry and Assessment Service (IEAS)
Investigates historical or present day allegations of child abuse made against adults in position of trust, i.e. foster carers, education staff and residential care staff.  Enquiries are conducted jointly with the police or independently.  The team also undertakes core and court assessments, where independence is required, allegations involve someone in a position of trust, young people are at risk of abuse from adults, or a parent's ability to care for their child has been compromised.

Guernsey

Bailiwick of Guernsey

  • Therapeutic work. Working with children and young people (aged 5-17) who have experienced neglect, physical, emotional, sexual or domestic abuse. The aim of the work is to help children and young people overcome the effects of abuse. The young person may ask for help themselves, or this may be done by a parent or carer, social workers, health visitors and other agencies concerned about the welfare of children and young people. We provide a Bailiwick wide service but most of our work is in Guernsey and Alderney.

  • Family support. Helping families and their children by providing support and information through drop-ins.
    We provide a welcoming place where parents and carers can play with their children 0 to 5 years, meet other parents/carers in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere. We encourage positive parenting as a way of promoting improved family relationships, reducing the risks to children and helping children develop in a positive way. Helping develop support networks is an important part of our work. We also provide support and advice on a wide range of parenting issues and have a wealth of helpful material on positive parenting, child development, etc.

  • Domestic abuse. We work with parents/carers and children (aged 5 to 17) who have experienced domestic abuse. The work includes individual work with non-abusing parents/carers and with children, and with parents/carer and child together. Group work will start later in 2008. The NSPCC works closely with other agencies such as The Women's Refuge, Women's Aid, and the Police Family Protection Unit.

Hereford SHB
Provides a county wide service to children, young people and their families where sexually harmful behaviour (SHB) has been identified. Services include assessment and longer term therapeutic work as well as consultation and training to other agencies.

Jersey

Jersey Pathways Partnership
Provides a community based, pre-school (and pre-birth) family support service based within the local primary school. The service provides babies and children with the opportunity to play, learn and socialise with others in a safe environment with their parents/carers, who are also offered support and advice. Activities include universal drop-in groups for parents/carers and children; specific groups for dads, expectant mums and 0 to 1 year olds; parenting programmes with crèche facilities, and case work. 'Footsteps to Nursery' is a home visiting programme to encourage play and learning for children about to start nursery. Read more about our group for dads .

Leicester

Bal Raksha
Offers family support services to the Asian population in Leicester and the Somali community. The project works to enable families to work through any issues of family break down such as behaviour management and parenting, domestic violence, mental health and its impact on children, bereavement and children who have suffered various forms of abuse.

The services we provide includes drop-ins, play schemes, workshops on various aspects of child care, parenting programmes, awareness of child abuse, impact of mental health on children, impact of domestic violence on children, child mental health, play workshops and women's health.

We also deliver group work programmes which include working with fathers, and working with women suffering from mental health issues on their self esteem and confidence. The project is also involved in offering family support in three schools by providing a drop-in service for young people. We also provide one-to-one work with children and their families on any of the above issues which is always culturally appropriate. The families are seen within their home environment and also at the project. Referrals are accepted from parents/carers and children, as well as social services, education and health, other voluntary agencies and community groups.

Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire Children and Families' Service
Carries out assessment and therapeutic work with children who have suffered sexual abuse, or who are exhibiting sexually harmful behaviour. The team takes self-referrals or referrals from parents/carers and other professionals throughout Lincolnshire. The work involves one-to-one work with children and provides consultation for parents/carers and professionals.

Northamptonshire

Northampton Child and Parent Centre
Offers family support services, mainly to children aged 0 to 7 years within the eastern district of Northampton. Services include play opportunities through organised drop-ins, a special drop-in for young parents, a fathers' group, which provides support for dads, workshops on a range of topics, including basic safety in the home and child development and behaviour, individual advice and problem solving approaches to child/parent relationships. Referrals from parents/carers and children accepted.

Yew Tree Service
Offers post abuse therapeutic work to children and young people who have suffered abuse or neglect. Services include individual work with children and young people who have been sexually abused, and individual and group work with children who have witnessed violence, together with support for their non-violent carers. Individual and family work is also offered to deaf and disabled children and young people who have been abused. Referrals are received from social care and health, primary health teams, schools, police or children, young people and their families.

Nottinghamshire

East Midlands Independent Enquiry and Assessment Service (IEAS)
The team undertakes child protection enquiries and assessments, usually on behalf of local authorities, when there is a need for independence, e.g. allegations against people in positions of trust such as teachers or foster carers. Will also undertake court mandated assessments. Works closely with statutory agencies such as police and children's services.

Nottingham Young Persons Centre and Schools Team
Offers three key services for young people primarily between the ages of 9 to 16. The Child Protection Advocacy service is for children who are the subject of initial child protection conferences and review conferences. The Home and Away service offers support to young people who run away from home. It particularly focuses on resolving the concerns for the child that led to the running away and preventing future running away. The Listening and Support service is offered to children and young people who would like support on a range of issues. This support is offered within the centre or within schools. The service also carries out group work in a special needs school.

Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin

Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin's SHB / Therapeutic Service
Provides services both for children and young people who have experienced abuse and for those who have abused others through sexually harmful behaviour (SHB). We offer advice and consultation to professional colleagues, and assessment and therapeutic work with young people and with their families or carers. Referrals come from a variety of sources, including social care, education, health, youth offending services and the courts, as well as from families and young people themselves.

Midlands CARS
Provides an independent Children's Advocacy and Representation Service (CARS) to children and young people who are looked after by local authorities.The service recruits and links adult volunteers in the role of Independent Visitor to a child or young person who in growing up in care and has very minimal or discontinued contact with their birth family. The team assists in the oversight of investigations into complaints made against the local authorities concerned with the care and or provision of services, resources and accommodation to children in care and those with disabilities. The team provides visiting contact to young people who are placed in secure accommodation.

Somerset


Somerset CPC
Provides a therapeutic service to children and young people who have suffered abuse. We offer them a safe and supportive space where they can explore and examine their thoughts and feelings about what has happened to them, to help them move forward positively in their lives. We also work with parents and carers to help them understand what has happened to their children and enable them to support their child through the recovery process.

Staffordshire

Staffordshire SHB
Provides a county wide service to young people and their families where sexually harmful behaviour (SHB) has been identified as an issue. Services include assessment and longer term therapeutic work. Referrals from parents/carers and children/young people accepted up until the age of 17.

Midlands CARS

North Staffordshire Therapeutic Service
Offers help to children and young people who have experienced any form of abuse, including sexual, physical and emotional abuse, child sexual exploitation or domestic violence. Works with children between the ages of 4 to18 years. Referrals are made by social services, family protection police, education and health services, but parents and children are also welcome to make initial contact.

West Midlands

Black Country Team
Works with children and young people up to the age of 17 who display sexually harmful behaviour. Services include telephone advice, consultation meetings with staff, comprehensive assessments and therapeutic programmes. Referrals are accepted from professionals working within the boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall and also from the City of Wolverhampton, with the two main sources being assessment and child protection teams and youth offending teams.

Coventry Family Support Services
Provides a range of preventative services to parents and children up to the age of 18.  The primary aim of all our services is that children and young people are cared for safely by adults.  We do this by providing a range of services which includes:

  • volunteer befriending service
  • parenting work
  • direct work with children
  • group work with children
  • one-to-one work with parents/carers.

Referrals from parents/carers and children are accepted. We are also developing our service in two areas:

  • protective behaviour work
  • domestic abuse work.

Coventry SHB Team
Offers an assessment and intervention service for young people up to the age of 17 who display sexually harmful behaviour (SHB). Works with young people and their families and has close links with the local authority, police, Coventry Youth Offending Service and the children's safeguarding board.

Midlands Independent Enquiry and Assessment Service (IEAS)
Investigates organised, institutional and professional child abuse. Works with other agencies to promote the welfare of children and young people.  Recent developments have included the completion of assessments to assist the family court reaching decisions regarding the needs of children subject to care proceedings.

South Birmingham SHFA (Sexual Harm From Adults) Team
Provides therapeutic services to children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse. The team also provides assessments and treatment programmes for alleged and convicted offenders, as well as for carers of children who may be at risk.

Tara House Schools
This service is developing services to meet the needs of children and young people subject to domestic violence, and is currently engaging in discussions with a range of partners. The launch date for this new NSPCC service will be Autumn 2008. 

Time Out Young People's Centre
Provides services for any young person who is troubled and who is in or has been through the child protection and looked after system. The centre works with 9 to19 year olds and offers services such as advice, counselling/therapy, group work and participation groups. Individual counselling/therapy is available for young people who wish to talk about problems such as abuse, trauma, bullying, relationship difficulties and family difficulties. Referrals from children/young people accepted.

Wiltshire

Ashdown Family Centre
Supports local children and their families through a range of services, some universal (e.g. drop-ins and toddler groups) and others targeted at more vulnerable children and families (e.g. counselling, advocacy, crisis support). Other services include positive parenting support groups, and an after school activity group. Referrals from parents/carers and children accepted.

Calne Family Centre
Offers support to children (up to 8 years old) and their families. Services include drop-in sessions, parenting skills groups, after school groups, teenage parent groups, support for fathers, summer activity weeks, crisis support work and individual advice. Referrals come from children and parents themselves, as well as from health, education, social services and other voluntary agencies.

North Swindon Family Centre
Offers support to children and their families. The aim of the centre is to improve family life, to ease the effects of stress on family members, and to prevent children from suffering significant harm. Also helps families to meet their children's social, emotional, cultural and health needs and to provide a stimulating and safe home-life for them. A drop-in service just for dads is one of the services on offer. Referrals are welcomed from parents and children as well as health visitors, teachers and social workers.

Worcestershire

Worcestershire SHB
The Worcester SHB team offers a number of services for children and young people who display sexually harmful behaviour (SHB). Assessments are aimed at managing the risks that children might pose to themselves and others as well as identifying therapeutic needs/interventions, where appropriate.  Referrals to the service come from a variety of sources, including; children's services, education, health, youth offending services, as well as from families and young people themselves. 

Worcestershire CARS
Provides an independent Children's Advocacy and Representation Service (CARS) to children and young people who are looked after by Worcestershire County Council.
