Who to turn to

The NSPCC offers a range of services and tools specifically designed to support children, young people, parents, professionals and anyone concerned with the welfare of children. Find out who to turn to if you are...

A child

ChildLine is the free helpline for children and young people in the UK. If you are a children or a young person, you can call us on 0800 1111 to talk about any problem - our counsellors are always here to help you sort it out. It is free and confidential.

An adult concerned about a child

HelpLine - 0808 800 5000Adults who are concerned about a child and wish to speak to a trained child protection officer should call the NSPCC Child Protection Helpline. This helpline is also available to professionals looking for information about child protection issues.

Disabled children are more vulnerable to abuse and may need greater protection for a number of reasons. Some may have added communication problems. We offer advice and guidance to help protect deaf and disabled children.

If you have contacted the NSPCC Helpline, social services or the police with concerns about a child, you may wonder what happens next. The information in this section will help you understand what a child protection enquiry is and how reports of child abuse are dealt with.

Our work to protect children is carried out by nearly 200 NSPCC teams and projects. The help and support they provide to children and families varies according to the needs of the local community. Key services include: Specialist investigation teams, young people's centres, working with children in care, young witness support, work with young abusers, support for parents and carers and more.
