Teachers' area
Children have been helping other children by fundraising with
the NSPCC for over 100 years.
We have worked to develop strong relationships with thousands of schools
and school children and now have 54 specially trained organisers who work
at the heart of their local communities.
Visiting nursery, primary and middle schools throughout England, Wales,
Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, our schools department talks
to our most important target audience: children.
Awareness talks and assemblies have been developed for children between
the ages of five and 13.
They tackle issues like:
-
personal safety
-
abuse
-
neglect and bullying
-
stranger danger
After the talks, 'smart cards' are handed out to the children. These
cards give important safety messages and information, including our Child
Protection Helpline number: 0808 800 5000.
The number is free and open 24 hours a day
We love it when schools help fundraise for us, and there's loads of reasons
to get involved.
1. Fits in with the National Curriculum
All fundraising activities have an educational element
and are linked to the National Curriculum.
2. Raising social awareness
Our schools fundraisers are trained to motivate and educate children
about relevant issues and problems. We want to raise awareness and
can give advice on who children can turn to if they need help dealing
with an issue.
3. Links into PSHE
The information and issues raised in the talks can be discussed
and extended to work in the PHSE curriculum, saving you time in
terms of resourcing suitable materials.
4. Promotes a feel good factor
Our fundraising activities let children and young people help other
children. RThey can really get involved and feel make a real difference.
5. Working for a common aim
Our events provide great team building exercises for the school;
both children and teachers
6. Professionally developed learning programmes
Our school programmes have been researched and developed in schools
together with teachers, parents and children. This ensures they
are suitable, enjoyable and educationally relevant for the different
audiences.
7. Raising awareness of the NSPCC's services
Our talks show the many ways the NSPCC works to support parents
and children, including our Helpline and a range of NSPCC publications.
8. Local funds for local projects
The fundraising events give children real ownership of and help
to the community in which they live.
9. Children helping other children
When children work together and if they look at the problems many
of them face, this can lead to better communications and understanding.
10. No extra teaching resources
Our programmes are designed so teachers don't need to do extra
work becasue they are fully linked in with the curriculum. |
We are currently devising a fundraising programme to pilot in
secondary schools.
