What the NSPCC do

We have been looking after children for more than 100 years.
It's what we do.
We run lots of services for children, young people and their families.
We try and persuade people in power to make laws that protect children
and help adults look after children properly. |
Here are some examples of the ways we help:
The NSPCC Child Protection Helpline
This is a free service which is open 24 hours a day, every
day of the year.
Last year, our telephone counsellors dealt with 1,700 calls each
week from adults and children.

Services for children and young people
We have 180 teams across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the
Channel Islands.
They offer help and advice to children, young people and their
families who are having a tough time or need someone to turn to.

Young People's Advisory Groups
We're setting up groups around the country for young people to
tell us what you think we should be doing to make life better for
children.
These are called Young People's Advisory Groups or YPAGs.
|
Campaigning
Campaigning means trying to get others to agree with you to change
something you believe is important, especially people with the power
to make a difference.
We campaign about things that affect children by talking about
it in newspapers, magazines, television and Parliament.
For example, we think children shouldn't be smacked, so we sent
loads of letters to Government telling them this.
Sometimes, campaigning is a great way to get people to listen to
you and change things.

Advice leaflets
We produce all sorts of advice leaflets for young people, parents,
teachers and sports clubs to help them protect children.
They talk about things like how to stop parents getting
stressed and who you can talk to about your problems.
