NSPCC comments on findings of Allen review
A new body created to increase effective practice could support and expand nineteen of the most effective early intervention programmes, a report has said.
The report is being led by Labour MP Graham Allen and has also recommended the creation of 15 'local early intervention places' to spearhead the development of practices.
In total there are 34 reccomendations in the report, none of which need new legislation or immediate additional public expenditure to be implemented.
NSPCC head of strategy and development for under-ones Chris Cuthbert (pictured right) said: "We welcome the Allen Review's calls for support for vulnerable families during pregnancy and the early years of a child's life.
"The physical and emotional abuse of babies is particularly shocking and is known to have a corrosive effect, leading to a wide range of problems in later life.
"The first year of a child's life is a critical period, laying the foundations for all future learning, behaviour and health. It's therefore vital to take action as soon as possible to save children from harm."
