Safer Internet Day 2012

Safer Internet Day 2012 takes place on Tuesday 7 February this year. The day is organised by Insafe every year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people.

The topic for 2012 is 'Connecting generations and educating each other' around the slogan 'Discover the digital world together... safely!' Families are being encouraged to work together to stay safe online and to educate each other.

The younger generations may be more digitally aware but they can learn a lot from the older generations in their families about how to understand what is safe behaviour and what isn't. By swapping digital skills for life skills, younger people can explore the internet with more confidence in how to stay safe.

The NSPCC website has advice for parents on internet safety and the Childline site also gives advice to children and young people on how to stay safe online.
