Peter Watt comments on more claims against Savile

There have been further claims of sexual abuse against the late TV presenter, Jimmy Savile

11 October 2012

Over the last five days the NSPCC has received 40 calls following claims of sexual abuse committed by Jimmy Savile. Of these 24 have been referred to the police or other agencies.

Seventeen of the calls directly related to Jimmy Savile. Just as importantly 21 people spoke to our counsellors about abuse they had suffered from other people - not Savile- and were given advice and referred to other support agencies where appropriate.

Peter Watt, Director of Child Protection Advice and Awareness, said:

"It's vital for all victims of sexual abuse to come forward to offer information or seek help, no matter when the offence was committed or who the offender was.

We will continue to work closely with the Metropolitan Police Child Abuse Investigation Command to uncover any continuing abuse and provide support for the victims. Our helpline is open 24 hours with trained counsellors constantly on standby."
