first direct's inspirational partnership

first direct first formed a partnership with ChildLine at the beginning of 2009 with a target to raise £2million by 2011. However, 2010 saw first direct celebrate its 21st birthday, so first direct's CEO Matt Colebrook upped the ante and challenged the bank to achieve £2.1 million in 2010 alone and the bank smashed this challenging target finally contributing £2.2 million.

first direct's partnership with ChildLine (a service provided by the NSPCC) has been a great example of how, through pro-bono work, fundraising and volunteering, businesses can truly make a difference to charities despite the turbulent economic climate.

Most recently as part of the partnership, first direct encouraged customers and employees to run the London Marathon. The first direct team, made up of 29 runners, raised over £60,000 towards the NSPCC total (hopefully £1m), allowing nearly 38 counsellors to be trained to take calls from vulnerable, and distressed young people. On the day the weather was warm and sunny as the runners set off from Blackheath in London to complete the 26 miles and 385 yards of the marathon course. The atmosphere was electric and has already inspired friends and colleagues to take part next year.
